Days 1 & 2
First steps in China's capital - Beijing
Flight from Paris to Beijing
Meals and overnight on board.
Arrival mid-day. Welcome by your guide, transfer to the city, and departure for a first glimpse of the capital, with the famous Tian An Men Square and the Opera House built by French architect Paul Andreu. Check-in at your hotel for 3 nights, and dinner in a local restaurant.
Discover the Forbidden City (UNESCO), former residence of the emperors and their court, then climb to Coal Hill. Lunch, followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven (UNESCO) and its park. Dinner in town. Evening acrobatics show (optional, payable on site).
Day 3
Beijing eternal
Day 4
Beijing, Great Wall, Beijing
Departure for Mutianyu, a less-frequented section of the Great Wall (UNESCO), ascent and descent by cable car). Grilled fish lunch at the foot of the Wall.
On the way back, stroll through Dashanzi (or 798 Art District), where former Mao-era factories have been transformed into art galleries and lined with arty boutiques and cafés. In the evening, dine on Peking duck, the capital's famous specialty.
Head for the Summer Palace (UNESCO), and discover the imperial summer residence and its superb park. Back in town, lunch, then a visit to the Temple of the Lamas.
Stroll through the hutong, a maze of narrow lanes lined with low-rise houses, and Dashilan Street, a shopping street since the Ming dynasty.Visit a pearl factory, transfer to the station and dinner before boarding the overnight train to Xian.
Day 5
Emperor's time - Beijing / Xian - night train
Day 6
Pagoda and mosque - Xian
Arrival in Xian, transfer to hotel and breakfast before visiting the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the City Museum. Lunch of Mongolian fondue, followed by an introduction to calligraphy, then a stroll through the narrow streets of the Muslim quarter.
Visit to a jade workshop, and dinner in town. After dinner, possibility of attending the beautiful sound and light show on the ramparts of Xian (optional, payable locally).
Depart for Lintong and visit the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi (UNESCO), buried with his terracotta army. Lunch and return to the city mid-afternoon, with free time to stroll around this provincial town, particularly along the ramparts of the ancient walled city.
In the evening, a delicious banquet of ravioli, a local specialty. Possibility of attending a Tang dynasty dance performance (optional, payable on site).
Day 7
Terracotta treasure - Xian / Lintong / Xian

Shanghai and its art deco Bund - Xian / Shanghai
In the morning, transfer to the airport and flight to Shanghai (snack served on board). Arrive mid-afternoon and head downtown for a stroll along the Bund, where buildings from the 1920s face futuristic towers, dinner in a local restaurant.
Morning in the former French Concession, stroll through pretty Fuxing Park and stroll through the Xintiandi district with its small terraces. Lunch of Shanghai specialties, followed by a visit to the Shanghai Museum.
Discover the Mandarin Yu garden, free time to stroll through the narrow, picturesque streets, and stop off at a silk factory. After dinner, optional Shanghai by night excursion (payable on site).

Day 10
Poetic Venice of China and heading south - Shanghai / Zhujiajiao / Guilin
In the morning, drive to Zhujiajiao, a famous water town of Qing houses built around canals, on which you'll take a boat tour, a beautiful plunge into the China of yesteryear. Lunch, then transfer to the airport and flight to Guilin. Arrive in the evening, drive to Yangshuo (snack served on the way), and check into your hotel.
Drive to the traditional village of Yangdi and board a small boat for a trip on the Li River. Disembark and stroll through an ancient fishing village, with lunch on site.
Discovery of another village with its fan-making workshops and typical market. Continuation by electric tuk-tuk through the surrounding countryside of rice paddies and karst mountains, then back to Yangshuo.
Rest of the afternoon free to explore this picturesque town. Dinner in town. Possibility of attending a sound and light show directed by filmmaker Zhang Yimou (optional, payable on site).
Day 11
The Li River Prints - Yangshuo

Hello Hong Kong! - Yangshuo / Guilin / Hong Kong
Transfer to Guilin station and express train to Hong Kong (approx. 3h15 journey, packed lunch).
Arrive in West Kowloon, transfer and check-in for 2 nights at your hotel just a stone's throw from Victoria Bay and the Avenue of Stars, where you can admire the Symphony of Lights show at 8pm for an unforgettable vision.
Climb to Victoria Peak for a view of the entire archipelago and bay, then take the unusual Central-Mid-Levels escalator down to Tai Kwun, a complex of art galleries and boutiques.
Then visit the Man Mo Taoist temple, stroll along Cat Street with its old antique stalls, and cross the bay on the legendary Star Ferry to Kowloon, followed by a dim sum lunch. Afternoon at leisure.

Valentin helped us organize our trip. He helped us book our return flights to Mexico, our internal flights within Mexico, our accommodations in San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City, and our transfers. Valentin was professional, friendly and responsive in all our dealings. He chose two very nice boutique hotels for us.
