Japan culture: women in the traditional Kimono

Exploring Japan by Shinkansen is a unique experience to see this amazing country traveling fast in the comfort of a high speed train:

Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka.

Japan is renowned for its seamless blend of modernity and tradition, and there’s no better way to experience it than by riding the Shinkansen, Japan’s iconic bullet train.

On a recent trip, I had the chance to journey from Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka, experiencing the unique charm of each city while cruising through the heart of Japan at over 300 km/h.

Tokyo: The Start of the Adventure.

The trip began in Tokyo, a sprawling metropolis that combines towering skyscrapers with historic temples. I spent a week exploring interesting lively neighborhoods like dynamic Shibuya, hype Shinsjuku, elegant Ginza, old Asakusa and more.

Everyday was a different experience highlighted by new discoveries (Royal Palace and gardens, Shibuya crossing, the most crowded pedestrian crossroad in the world, Akihabara electric town with its gigantic electronic stores, the luxury of Omotesando and its shops, the view from the Tokyo Tower... Every day was packed with adventure.

Another highlight was the food!! Everybody knows sushi but Japan cuisine is much more than that and it is surprisingly affordable. There is something for everyone and if the budget permits, tasting the unique flavor of the famous Kobe beef is an experience in itself that certainly leaves a delicious memory.

After a week of wonder, it was time to head to Tokyo Station for the next leg. The sheer efficiency of Japan’s rail system becomes immediately clear as you step into the futuristic Shinkansen platform.

Kyoto: A Step Back in Time.

In just a little over two hours, I arrived in Kyoto. The tranquility of this city is a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Kyoto is famous for its stunning temples, traditional tea houses, and the beautiful bamboo groves of Arashiyama. Walking through the ancient streets of Gion, where geishas still roam, felt like a journey back in time. No visit to Kyoto would be complete without seeing the Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) or taking in the peacefulness of Fushimi Inari Shrine’s iconic torii gates.

Osaka: The Vibrant Finish

An hour’s ride on the Shinkansen from Kyoto brought me to Osaka, a city bursting with energy, famous for its street food and lively atmosphere. Osaka Castle stands proudly amidst the modern skyline, and Dotonbori, with its neon lights and bustling canals, is a feast for the senses. From takoyaki stalls to the bustling Kuromon Market, Osaka was the perfect end to a whirlwind trip.

The Shinkansen Experience.

Beyond the cities themselves, the journey on the Shinkansen is an experience in its own right. With plush seats, expansive windows showcasing Japan’s picturesque countryside, and the smoothest ride imaginable, traveling by Shinkansen is the epitome of convenience and comfort. In just a few short hours, I was whisked across Japan, with plenty of time to take in the view of Mount Fuji on a clear day. A trip from Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka is a perfect introduction to Japan’s diverse landscapes and cultures. The Shinkansen makes it possible to experience it all, connecting past and future at breathtaking speeds.
